Each month, we host a Community Dinner where neighbors come together to meet and build connections with newly arrived refugees. Our new neighbors prepare the main part of the meal, while attendees contribute side dishes. Together, we share a meal, learn from one another, and listen to each other’s stories. These dinners give refugee families an opportunity to meet members of the community, and hosts and attendees get to enjoy international cuisine and make new connections. Set-Up Volunteers will help prepare the space for the evening. Duties may include setting up tables, arranging flowers, doing light cooking, creating place cards, decorating, and other tasks to help make the dinner welcoming and special. If you would also like to attend the dinner (all ages are welcome!), please sign up for both the Set-Up volunteer opportunity (this listing, from 4:00-6:00pm) and the Dinner project listing (from 6:00-8:00pm). Volunteers who stay for dinner will help the refugee family warm the food they have prepared and assist with plating and serving. Throughout the evening, you’ll help welcome guests and act as hosts. If you’re able to stay through the end of dinner, you’ll also be encouraged to help with clean-up.
