Grocery shop for neighbors who are homebound, experiencing hardship, elderly, or otherwise lacking time, resources, or ability to shop for groceries themselves. Volunteers will shop for items on a provided list(s) and attempt to stay within the budget assigned by our partner, West Brooklyn Waterfront Mutual Aid. WBWMA is a grassroots community collective created by neighbors, for neighbors. They raise funds to cover the costs of groceries and other necessities. They are in need of your donations to serve their clients. A WBWMA veteran volunteer will be there to assist you should you have questions. WBWMA will pay for the groceries at check out and deliver them. Families are encouraged to sign up and attend together! DAY-OF INSTRUCTIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS: Please meet OUTSIDE Wegman's entrance (21 Flushing Ave) promptly at 9:30am. DON'T CANCEL OR NO SHOW! We are counting on you to be there could risk not being able to get groceries to someone in need this week. Your Volunteer Contact will be Faye. She can be reached at: 212-721-7023. Volunteers will work in teams and shop for items on provided list(s). Your goal is to stay within budget assigned by our partner leaders from West Brooklyn Waterfront Mutual Aid and to try and get everything the client needs. Faye will give you some direction and tips for shopping, including where/when to meet to check out and load the cars for delivery. Please remember to: -Respect our partners at WBMA and listen to direction -Wegmans is busy on Saturday mornings. Be respectful of their staff and other shoppers. -Do not shop for yourself until after your shift is over. Once you have completed the project, you can shop for yourself. -Take photos of you and your group shopping! The best way for us to inspire other volunteers is to show you at work.
